Endodontic Post-Care Instructions

Your endodontic treatment is now complete. The root canals has been permanently sealed. The next step in completing you dental treatment is contacting your dentist and making an appointment to have the tooth permanently restored. This should be done within a 2 weeks from your treatment. Most teeth will require a full coverage crown or cap to help protect the tooth from further damage.

If the tooth is tender we recommend taking 3 tabs of 200mg ibuprofen (Advil) and/or 500mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) every 6-8 hours to relieve any discomfort. If the pain become more sever and the medication above is not helping or if any swelling develops in the area, please call our office for further instructions.

NOTE: ALCOHOL INTAKE IS NOT ADVISED WHILE TAKING ANY MEDICATIONS.

Once your root canal treatment is complete, it is the patient responsibility to follow up with your dentist in a timely manner to have the tooth restored. Failing to have the tooth crowned in a timely manner could lead to recontamination of the root canal filling material and subsequent infection with the possible need for a retreatment of the tooth.
